SAGES SOPHS LOOK GOOD FOR FUTURE
SAGES SOPHS LOOKING GOOD
It comes as no surprise that the Monticello boy’s basketball team has a strong sophomore class. Most of the group has been playing together with a lot of success since fourth grade. They were second in the state IESA basketball tournament in the seventh grade and had an outstanding record as eighth graders.
The class is very deep in basketball talent. Three are currently seeing a lot of varsity action and seven more play on the JV team.
At this writing, the varsity is 2-1 with wins over Rantoul and Rochester and a 72-61 loss to Mahomet-Seymour last week. Trevor Drake scored 17 points, Corbin Sebens 12 and Curtis Leischner 7 in the recent loss.
Nathan Swarts 6-5, Chris Kempson 6-3, and Jack Foley 6-4 give the JV team good size. Brent Rhodes, Matt Hunt, Cameron Magsamen, and Neal Phelps are the other sophomore members of the JV team. All ten will be fighting for playing time on the varsity in the next two years.
