LUTHER HEAD SIGNS BIG CONTRACT

The Houston newspaper is reporting that former Illini basketball star Luther Head has signed a three-year contract with the Rockets. Head will receive $780,000 in the first year of the contract.
Head was a second team All-American and averaged 15.2 points/game for the 37-2 NCAA runner up Illini this spring.
Head has come a long way since he starred at Manley High School. Two years ago, he was almost back on the streets in the hood after getting caught up in a burglary scam at U of I. Head offered to quit the team, but coach Bruce Weber wouldn't let him.
Had Weber not taken back Head it is doubtful he would have ever made a dime playing basketball. The Champaign County States Attorney was given a lot of heat for not prosecuting the players involved in a burglary.
Let's hope Head has learned his lesson. Life has been good to him. Not everyone gets a second chance. Life in the NBA has been tough for many to keep their priorities in line. I hope for the best for the Illini. I believe he has earned a second chance. Please Luther, don't blow it.
