SAGES SUMMER BASKETBALL PROMISING

SAGES SUMMER BASKETBALL TEAM 20-3
The IHSA allows high school basketball coaches to have 25 contact days with their athletes during June and July. The 2005-2006 Sages will be young but apparently show promise. Monticello’s summer program is over. The team won tournaments at Auburn and Paxton-Buckley-Loda on their way to 20 wins and only 3 losses.
Summer leagues are not a true representation of schools complete basketball programs. Some players are not able to make every practice or game due to jobs, family vacations, etc.
Here is a list of the boys who did most of the participating for the Sages this summer: seniors, Matt Finet, Justin Ogelsby; juniors, Jonathon Dighton Jr, Ryan Koncel, Luke Marry, Caleb King; sophomores: Brent Rhodes, Trever Drake, Corbin Sebens, and Curtis Leischner.

LUTHER HEAD

ILLINI STAR SIGNS
THREE YEAR
CONTRACT

LUTHER HEAD SIGNS BIG CONTRACT

The Houston newspaper is reporting that former Illini basketball star Luther Head has signed a three-year contract with the Rockets. Head will receive $780,000 in the first year of the contract.
Head was a second team All-American and averaged 15.2 points/game for the 37-2 NCAA runner up Illini this spring.
Head has come a long way since he starred at Manley High School. Two years ago, he was almost back on the streets in the hood after getting caught up in a burglary scam at U of I. Head offered to quit the team, but coach Bruce Weber wouldn't let him.
Had Weber not taken back Head it is doubtful he would have ever made a dime playing basketball. The Champaign County States Attorney was given a lot of heat for not prosecuting the players involved in a burglary.
Let's hope Head has learned his lesson. Life has been good to him. Not everyone gets a second chance. Life in the NBA has been tough for many to keep their priorities in line. I hope for the best for the Illini. I believe he has earned a second chance. Please Luther, don't blow it.
